Just wondering if it was me or does anyone else have the same feelings? These controlled burns that USFWS (pee dee refuge) and NCWRC (sandhills) perform on public land. Its fronted as a wildlife management tool but its hard to convince me that when such a burn is performed as late as this week, (mid-May) its for management purposes. Please dont tell me that some Wildlife Manager, Depot Guru or biologist is not aware of Hens that are nesting and some have been setting on nest for some weeks. I feel that this burn hype has more to do with some ones wallet getting thicker and some people just like to play with fire. Kind-of like those volunteer fire fighters. You know the ones that have red lights all over and run around 90mph to get to a scene thats an hour old. Can't they get there schedules together and get this stuff took care of in January? Oh well, we (sportsman) just spent a fortune on trapping and relocating turkeys. Its worked out for the most part, i guess we can count on that again. There must be plenty of money. Makes alot of sense to go thru all the trouble and then just burn em up. It looks good on paper though to get those areas burned. Ye-Ha

I couldn't agree more. Of course the hens have little ones by now and it would be common sense to burn in January when damage to wildlife is minimal. It doesn't take a "forest surgeon" to figure out where their priorities lie.
