This bill, proposed by Senator Tillman, would extend the deer season by 1 week, and would eliminate any and all bag limits for antlerless deer. This bill is proposed to be a statewide bill. Below is the second revision of the bill:

======================
Quote::
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to extend the deer seasons and remove bag limits on antlerless deer in order to reduce the deer population in the state.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of G.S. 113?291.2 or any other provision of law, beginning with the 2007 hunting seasons, the Wildlife Resources Commission shall extend each of the seasons for taking deer with guns by closing the season one week later than previously established by rule of the Commission.

SECTION 2. Notwithstanding the provisions of G.S. 113?291.2 or any other provision of law, there shall be no bag limits on antlerless deer during any deer season established by the Wildlife Resources Commission.

SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law and expires January 1, 2009.

My opinion: This opens up a new area in wildlife management. Legislators should not be the people to manage our wildlife population. This should be left up to the people whose job it is to manage wildlife.

However, there are entirely too many vehicular accidents involving deer! Something has got to be done.

BUT---
This law should not be considered statewide. the western part of North Carolina does not have a problem with deer overpopulation, whereas the eastern part does.
