News › Western North Carolina Sportsman's Federation
The Western North Carolina Sportsman's Federation (WNC Sportsman's Federation) formed in September 2005 and is dedicated to protecting and improving our mountain habitats, conserving and enhancing our fish and wildlife stocks, promoting outdoor education, safety, and ethics, and representing the interests of hunters, anglers, and sportsmen in Western North Carolina.
The WNCSF is "calling together like-minded people that enjoy the outdoor sports of hunting, fishing and shooting." A letter of introduction is enclosed.

Dear Friend,
Western North Carolina is unique in both its landscape and its pursuit of the
sporting traditions. However, with the constant influx of differing agendas into
this region, we are slowly losing our sporting heritage. Many of the anglers,
hunters, and recreational shooters in WNC believe that our unique topography and
heritage require unique representation.
The Western North Carolina Sportsman's Federation (WNC Sportsman's Federation)
formed in September 2005 and is dedicated to protecting and improving our
mountain habitats, conserving and enhancing our fish and wildlife stocks,
promoting outdoor education, safety, and ethics, and representing the interests
of hunters, anglers, and sportsmen in Western North Carolina.
The WNC Sportsman's Federation is calling together like-minded people that enjoy
the outdoor sports of hunting, fishing and shooting. Our top priorities will aim
to cover the interests of sportsmen throughout Western North Carolina. We aim to
work with other conservation and sporting organizations to help protect our
heritage using science based facts and volunteer programs that will aid in the
following:
| a. |
Promote management and enhancement of wildlife stocks on Game
Lands, Wildlife Refuges & National Forests. In other words, if a
species is represented as present and can be legally hunted, WNC Sportsman's Federation will work with the
appropriate agencies and organizations to provide access and improve habitat.
For example, stockings and cover for quail, managed food plots for dove and
deer, impoundments for waterfowl, logging to promote grouse habitat, etc.
|
| |
|
| b. |
Work for public boat ramps and new regional ordinances governing siltation
and run-off.
|
| |
|
| c. |
Promote the opening of new and the protection of existing gun
ranges throughout Western North Carolina.
|
| |
|
| d. |
Promote science-based micro-management of the deer herd through
management of food plots and safe zones, harvest rates, season
length, etc.
|
| |
|
| e. |
Promote youth programs, such as youth days and the
re-introduction of Hunter Safety into schools and youth
organizations.
|
| |
|
| f. |
Explore the implementation of an annual recreational use permit
on game lands and national forests for recreationists who do not buy a hunting or fishing
license. Monies raised from this permit system can be used to enhance existing
fish and wildlife habitat as well as purchase and manage new fisheries and game
lands. |
As with any organization, to accomplish our goals takes money. We would like to
ask for your support by becoming a member. Because there is strength in numbers
we have purposely set our membership dues at a very low rate of $5.00 for
individuals, $10.00 for families, and $20.00 for club affiliations. Sponsorship
levels are also available at bronze ($50.00), silver ($100.00), and gold
($250.00) levels. At this time, the money we raise will be used to build our
organization. Please send membership fees to: Cindy Clark, Treasurer, 12 Fulton
Drive, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
We are also actively seeking one or two representatives from each Western County
(Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Graham, Haywood,
Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain,
Transylvania, and Yancey) to serve on the Board of Directors. If you are
interested, please contact Carlton Murrey at 828-545-9017.
If you would like more information or become involved in the early development
of our organization, please feel free to contact our interim officers below:
