Preparing digital pictures for the web.

Modern digital cameras are capable of taking great pictures, suitable for printing, or for the web. But pictures suitable for one, are not good for the other. Most people set their cameras to maximum quality, and this is fine, but the files are much too large for the web. If you set the camera for the web, you will never get a decent print from the pics, so the best option is to take them at maximum, and then create copies for the web. These tutorials are to show how to do that.
There are as many different ways of doing this, as there are cameras, each which uses different software, so these tutorials are based on using the best free software, which actually does most of these things better than the software that comes with cameras. Software companies don't like to give out their best stuff, so you get the basic.

What you will need;

The latest version of Irfanview. You can download it free here.
A computer running with Windows. Unfortunately, Irfanview does not work on Macs, but there is free software available, and the principles are the same.

These tutorials will be split into 4 sections. To get the best results, do all 4, in order;

* 1. Saving the pictures to your computer.

* 2. Cropping, to get the best from the pictures.

* 3. Renaming, so the name means something.

* 4. Re-sizing and rotating, to make them ideal for the internet.

Following these instructions, you will still have the original high quality pictures for printing, should you want.
These instructions may look complicated at first, but after you've done it a couple of times, you'll see how easy it really is.
